Dugong Beach Lodge |
The recently rebuilt Dugong Beach Lodge lies within the boundaries of the privately managed Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary. The Lodge thus boasts some 30 000 pristine hectares (land and water-based). The Sanctuary is on a peninsula which is part of the mainland, to the south of Vilanculos.
The Lodge is a half hour boat ride across the clear water bay from Vilanculos, to which there are daily flights from Johannesburg.
Accommodation is in 12 luxury air-conditioned chalets, each of which is also equipped with a ceiling fan, tea/ coffee making facilities, mosquito net, and mini-bar. 2 of the chalets are suitable for families as they have 2 bedrooms, and each is equipped with a plunge pool. All of the accommodation has direct beach access, via walkways. In addition, each chalet had an outdoor shower, and private deck (complete with day beds). Guests can enjoy wellness treatments from the privacy of their deck.
The central Lodge area is home to the lounge, dining room and sun deck, all of which have excellent ocean views.
At Dugong Beach Lodge the tropical island ambiance and abundance of fresh seafood influence the cuisine. The Chef specializes in seafood and local Portuguese cuisine.
