Azura Fire – Monday 1st December 2008
UPDATE ON RE-OPENING OF AZURA MOZAMBIQUE
Following the unfortunate fire at Azura last month, we wanted to update you on the timetable for re-opening.
We are pleased to announce that all of the buildings that were affected by the fire are structurally sound and work has already begun on refitting them. Our contractor has indicated repairs will take a maximum of 5-6 months to complete. We are also in the fortunate position that the Government has given us special import clearance and pledged their full commitment and assistance in helping us get back up and running as quickly as possible.
In setting a re-opening date, we want to be conservative in our estimates at this stage, and as a result are only going to be taking bookings from the 20th of July 2009 onwards. Should the refitting progress as quickly as we hope, we will open up bookings for earlier dates in June/July in due course.
All of our key staff have been retained, and will be spending the next few months taking the opportunity to enhance and diversify their skills. This was one of our prime objectives when starting the Azura project three years ago. They will also be making the necessary preparations to have Azura operate at the high standards it is known for as soon as the repairs are completed.
The newest addition to the Bazaruto Archipelago, Azura is an exquisite getaway. It is situated on Benguerra Island, within the Marine National Park – founded to protect the rare Dugong, and to preserve the pristine reefs of the Archipelago.
With only 14 luxury beach villas, and 1 Presidential Villa, Azura remains small and exclusive. Designed with relaxation in mind, each villa is mere footsteps from the beach, but still stays secluded, nestled as it is, amongst the indigenous trees and bushes. Each villa boasts its own plunge pool, and deck – where you can enjoy private dining. In addition there is a Sala, outdoor shower, air-conditioning, and private butler service. In addition, the Presidential Villa will be equipped with an additional bathroom, sitting-cum-dining area, and a Jacuzzi.
Azura also boasts comfortable, and relaxed public areas, with magnificent Ocean vistas. Here, you will also find a library, complete with wide-screen TV, and internet access. You might also wish to indulge the senses with a visit to the Spa, with its locally designed signature treatments. At present the treatments are offered in the privacy of your Villa, and include a complementary neck and back massage upon arrival.
A separate Spa is located on the beach, away from the main Lodge. There are two double treatment rooms, complete with outdoor shower and relaxation area.
There is also a Water sports centre, which offers fishing and diving, a beach bar and grill. Guests may also wish to make use of the traditional Sailing Dhow – ever popular for sunset cruises.
For the more active, guests can enjoy swimming, sailing, snorkelling, scuba diving (there is excellent visibility), game fishing, fly fishing, kayaking, island drives, Cultural encounters, and star gazing.
Azura’s first Marlin was tagged within a few days of opening, and giant kingfish have been biting well. For fly fishermen and light tackle anglers there is some good sport with bonito, king mackerel, and queen mackerel.
Azura also has an in house environmentalist/ marine biologist, who will be working on community projects, and educating guests on the Bazaruto Archipelago. Stargazing has also been added to the menu of events at the Lodge.
You might also wish to opt for a helicopter transfer out to the Island – an efficient and exciting way to travel to and from the Island.
